The Memphis Grizzlies announced that Ja Morant has undergone successful surgery to repair his labral tear. In their announcement, the team wrote the following:

“Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant underwent successful surgery today to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder. Morant is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”

While this is of course a sad and disappointing situation, this news is encouraging. Once it was announced that Morant would miss the remainder of the season, the hope then shifted to him being fully healthy to begin next season. After undergoing successful surgery, it seems that will be the case for the star point guard.

The Grizzlies have had an absolutely dreadful season as it pertains to injuries. Entering the year knowing they would be without Morant for 25 games due to his suspension from the NBA, the Grizzlies could not have seen all of this coming. Losing Steven Adams for the season before it even began, Memphis was down their starting center and it only got worse from there.

Key rotation players have missed large chunks of time this season for Memphis, and now Morant is out for the year. Their already slim chances of making the playoffs are now likely all the way gone, which is unfortunate for a team that has high hopes for this season.
