In a recent article, ESPN's Bobby Marks broke down the potential supermax eligible NBA players next summer. With Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown recently signing a record-breaking $303.7M contract, it seems that number could be exceeded as early as next offseason.

Included on Marks' list of potential supermax eligible players next summer was Memphis Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. - the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. According to Marks, another DPOY award would make Jackson eligible for a 5-year, $318M extension with the Grizzlies. This number would of course top the $303.7M that Brown just signed for.

While this total number is shocking, it's important to recognize that this is the stratosphere supermax contracts are beginning to enter. The timing of these deals has led to players that aren't tier-one stars getting this money first, but the league's best players will eventually reach these heights once eligible as well.

Timing is such a crucial element when discussing these contracts, because while it can become easy to compare players and the money they're making, it's important to recognize the impact of when certain contracts were signed. Jaylen Brown wasn't the first player to exceed $300M because he's the best player in the NBA, that's just how the timing worked out. Soon, another player will top Brown's deal, and then another player will top that deal.

The total number on these max deals continues to ascend, and Jaren Jackson Jr. could one of the next beneficiaries if he wins another DPOY award.
