Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo And Dwyane Wade In Rare Company After Olympics Selection

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo may never pass Dwyane Wade is the greatest player in franchise history but they are now at least in the same company in one category.

On Wednesday, Adebayo was officially announced a member of the 2024 Olympics team. He joins Wade as the only players in Heat history to compete in multiple Olympics. Adebayo also played in 2020 while Wade participated in 2008 and 2004.

Adebayo now has the chance to one-up Wade in the gold medal department. Adebayo goes for his second while Wade went 1-1, losing in 2004 before leading the "Redeem Team" to glory four years later.

The rest of the team will include Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Devin Booker (Suns), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jrue Holiday (Celtics), Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers) and Anthony Davis (Lakers).

Adebayo is averaging 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists this season for the Heat. He has steadily improved in each of his seven seasons since being drafted out of Kentucky in 2017. Among his accomplishments is being a three-time NBA All-Star and making All-Defensive second-team four times.

This season, Adebayo helped lead the Heat to an appearance in the Play-In Tournament. They open against Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday. If the Heat win, they would advance to the first round of the playoffs and play the New York Knicks. Even if they lose, the Heat still have a chance for a spot in the postseason but would have to win two more games.

Adebayo is also the first Heat player to represent the Heat in the Olympics since LeBron James did it in 2012.
