Winning With Grit Is The Mantra For Miami Heat This Season

Nine of the last 10 Heat games were decided by five points or less

The most common word to describe the Miami Heat the past two games was "grit."

Players and coaches threw around the word because of the way Heat rallied from late-game deficits against the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic. On Saturday, they were down 10 midway through the fourth quarter before winning in overtime.

"It's must-see. It's going to be a close game," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "... We showed that necessary grit that you like to see out of a team."

The Heat now have played 30 games decided by five points or less, including nine of the last 10. They are on pace to break the record of 41 set by the Denver Nuggets in 1977-78.

Here's what the players are saying about the amount of clutch games:

Forward Jimmy Butler: "It's difficult but I think that's the type of squad we are. We like to make things difficult. We like to, I guess, put on a show. I don't know what you would call it. It could be a lot easier but we take them as they come."

Center Bam Adebayo: "It feels like we play a playoff game every night. It just shows the grit that we play with. We like to slow the game down and win it in the mud."
