In this story:

Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith wants to become a better offensive player, particularly as a shooter.

So it only makes sense for him to team up with the Heat's best from the perimeter to make it happen. Highsmith and Duncan Robinson have became quite the workout tandem over the summer.

"Shooting with Duncan is very frustrating because we have competitive drills," Highsmith said. "I think I'm shooting my absolute best and he's beating me at every drill."

So far, it's been a success. Highsmith scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, in Wednesday preseason loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Last year Highsmith shot 33 percent from the 3-point line on 109 attempts. Working with Robinson, the Heat's career 3-point leader, can only help.

As a bonus, the workouts are more than just improved shooting.

"Shooting with him makes me better overall," said Highsmith, a former two-way player. "It definitely helped me as far as my jumpshot confidence ... It's just good to workout with a guy like that, learn from the best. Not only just shooting, just everything. Duncan plays at a great pace, IQ and all that."

Highsmith is proving the Heat can count on his this season when needed, just like last year when injuries forced him into the lineup during the NBA Finals.
