Last year the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks enjoyed banner seasons, with both making the conference finals.

A year later, things are hardly the same.

The Heat and Mavericks are shells of themselves this season and it only got worse when it was reported Dallas is considering shutting down Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for the remainder of the season.

The Mavericks are No. 11 in the Western Conference standings after Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The Heat are in the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference after finishing first last year.

"I think we're having similar seasons," Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. "We had success last year at a high level. Each season is different, they're never the same ... Each player has a different season. We're in the same boat. We're both fighting for our lives to make it in the playoffs. We just have to focus on what's in front of us today and not worry about tomorrow."
