Eastern Conference Recaps, March 8: Trae Young's 28 Points Led Atlanta Hawks Past Washington Wizards

The Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards are fighting to remain in the play-in position and their desperation shows. The Hawks defeated the Wizards 122-120 but it was De’Andre Hunter’s three-point play which put them in winning position.

“Happy with the effort and proud of, really as much as anything tonight, in my mind for our team, was about just competing," Hawks head coach Quin Snyder said. "I thought we really competed.”

Trae Young led the Hawks with 28 points and 10 assists and Dejounte Murray had 17 points. Kristaps Porzingis led the Wizards with a career-high 43 points. It was the most he scored since Nov. 28 when he had 41. Kyle Kuzma had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Bradley Beal had 24.

OTHER NOTES:

-While Jaylen Brown struggled, Jayson Tatum made sure the Boston Celtics didn’t lose a fourth straight game. His 30 points led them to a 115-93 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers. Derrick White had 21 points and Al Horford had 17.

Damian Lillard led the Trail Blazers with 27 points.

-Zach LaVine’s 29 points gave the Chicago Bulls a 117-96 victory against the Western Conference-leading Denver Nuggets. Nikola Vucevic had 25 points and 15 rebounds, his 40th double-double this season and the third-most in the NBA.

Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

NEXT BULLS GAME AGAINST THE HEAT: Mar. 18 in Chicago

-The Los Angeles Clippers moved up to playoff position after a 108-100 victory against the Toronto Raptors. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds and Paul George had 23 points. Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 20 points.
