The NBA recently introduced the Eastern and Western Conference Finals MVP awards but still lacks one major honor.

The Offensive Player of the Year award holds significant value in the NFL. Despite this, the NBA continues to honor the best defensive player while ignoring the offensive end.

One name that comes to mind on the topic of offense is Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard.

The Miami Heat are expected to acquire Lillard before the start of next season, putting him in an ideal situation to win this hypothetical award. If Lillard is shipped to Miami, scoring pressure would be alleviated, allowing him to focus on setting up his teammates and scoring efficiently.

While the Defensive Player of the Year award is largely based on steals, blocks, and impact, the offensive award could focus on a broader spectrum. Some of the key elements would include scoring, efficiency, and playmaking.

These aspects clearly cater to guards, specifically Lillard, who averaged over 30 points on 46.3 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from three.
