Jimmy Butler Bypassed For All-Star Replacement By Trae Young, Scottie Barnes

In this story:
Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler is officially ruled out of the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities.
On Tuesday, the league announced Toronto Raptors guard Scottie Barnes and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young as injury replacements for the game. They took the place of Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) and Julius Randle (New York Knicks).
There was a chance Butler could have landed one of spots. While Young's numbers of 27.3 points and career highs of 10.9 assists and 1.47 steals a game are far better, Butler was on the same level as Barnes.
Barnes is averaging career highs of 20.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists, but he plays for a Raptors team that is just 17-33. Butler once again has the Heat in the playoff race despite missing several games to injury.
Still, he is averaging 21.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Heat, who are 26-24 and hold the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Toronto’s Scottie Barnes and Atlanta’s Trae Young have been named by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver as injury replacements on the Eastern Conference team for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game.

Embiid, the reigning regular season MVP, is out because he is dealing with a left knee injury. Randle has a dislocated shoulder.
Center Bam Adebayo is the only Heat player participating in the event. He is an All-Star for a third time.
