Jimmy Butler Takes Responsibility for Miami Heat's Championship Shortcomings

In this story:
Miami Heat All-Star Jimmy Butler continues to put the blame on himself for the failure to get over the hump.
Butler has always taken the fall for his teammates, making his comments about himself during an interview with CGTN Sports Scene no surprise. During his tour of China, he did not shy from the opportunity to critique himself for the Heat’s falling to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals.
"It's always the same expectation; I have to be able to get us over the hump to win a championship. I know that the group of guys that are always placed around myself is capable of it," Butler said. "Maybe we all gotta do a little bit more, but a championship is coming to the future in Miami."

It seems impossible to believe Butler could have contributed any more last season. During the regular season, he averaged 22.9 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.9 rebounds on 53.9 percent shooting from the field. Butler took a considerable step up during their historic playoff run, averaging 26.9 points and 5.9 assists while shooting 35.9 percent from the arc. He was awarded the Eastern Conference Finals MVP last season.
Butler only has the capability to accomplish so much on his own, which he commented on during the interview. "Ah, I mean, I think the most important factor of us reaching the Finals was just teamwork,” Butler said. “The way that we played all year long, it was never about one guy."
The Heat are looking to acquire guard Damian Lillard this offseason to form a Big Three alongside Butler and Bam Adebayo.
