Miami Heat Miss Out On Free Agent Kelly Oubre Jr., To Philadelphia 76ers

In this story:
Amidst their pursuit of Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard, the Miami Heat missed out on yet another free agent.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported former Charlotte Hornets forward Kelly Oubre Jr. is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. Miami was a favorite to acquire Oubre this offseason despite their attention remaining on Lillard.
He could have provided offensive assistance and 3-point shooting for a Miami team that struggled in those aspects. Last season, Oubre averaged a career-high 20.3 points on 43 percent shooting.
Free agent G/F Kelly Oubre Jr., is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN. Oubre — who averaged 20 points for Charlotte last season — could get significant opportunity on the wing with the uncertainty around James Harden.

The Heat recently also failed to sign center Christian Wood, who joined the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-year deal. The Lakers making him a priority was likley the deciding factor.
Although acquiring Lillard helps Miami’s championship aspirations, these smaller moves are what have allowed them to reach the NBA Finals twice in the past four seasons.
Players such as Kyle Lowry, Kevin Love, and Caleb Martin have contributed to their recent success.
