In this story:

The Miami Heat tried to lure point guard Kyrie Irving twice in the last year.

Again, they were unable to pull it off.

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Irving has decided to remain with the Dallas Mavericks. The Heat were among the teams who had a shot at landing Irving this offseason.

The Heat tried to grab him last summer free agency and also made an effort before the trade deadline in February. Instead, the Mavs have another year of pairing Irving with All-Star Luka Doncic.

The Heat now have to put their hopes in finding a way to acquire Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, who has expressed unhappiness with playing for a non-contender. If they are unable to land Lillard, the Heat face the possibility of entering next season with a roster that has lost two NBA Finals appearances in the past four years.
