In this story:

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo was named to the NBA's All-Defensive Second-Team Tuesday by the league.

While Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has often campaigned for him as the defensive player of the year, Adebayo didn't make that list.

Still, Adebayo was listed among the game's best defensive players this season. He has played a role in the Heat going from a No. 8 seed entering the playoffs to being one win from making the Eastern Conference finals for a second straight season.

The Heat lead the New York Knicks 3-1 in the best-of-7 series in the conference semifinals. If they win, they play either the Philadelphia 76ers or Boston Celtics in the next round.

Game 5 of the series is Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
