Terry Rozier is More Valuable Than He Gets Credit For

Charlotte's veteran guard helped lead the charge Tuesday night in Sacramento.

Ever since Terry Rozier first arrived in Charlotte, he has been criticized. I'm sure a lot of it stems from the rather large contract extension the team gave him back in 2021 and many within the fan base not agreeing he is worth that kind of money. However, he continues to prove game after game and year after year that he is worth every penny.

Don't believe me? Just look at what he did last night in Sacramento, for example.

The Hornets were down four starters and were on an 11-game losing streak entering last night's contest. The night before, Rozier missed the game due to illness and according to head coach Steve Clifford, didn't look very good.

All Rozier did was go off for 34 points, 14 of which came in the final quarter to help the Hornets battle from behind and officially snap the losing skid. Terry's toughness is something this young squad needs to keep around. I understand there will be some dialogue around the trade deadline involving Rozier and other veterans as the team will likely be sellers, but it would greatly benefit the Hornets to hold on to the 29-year-old guard.

He can make tough shots consistently, facilitate the rock, and can maneuver his way through the defense and finish at the rim. At this moment, he's the Hornets lone three-level scorer. LaMelo Ball is a terrific shooter, but he still has a lot of room to grow when it comes to attacking the cup. Aside from his ability to score, pass, and at times defend, one of Rozier's best values is his leadership. He tells it how it is and the younger guys listen when he has something to say. That carries a lot of weight and is something that would be difficult to replace mid-season.

I'm not sure Rozier should be a part of the Hornets' long-term future, but I do believe he should be a part of this thing moving into next year.
