While the Utah Jazz entered Thursday night’s final preseason game against the Sacramento Kings short four players due to rest, the team had little to no problems finding production to replace what was lost. They ultimately fell short 113-116, but G Collin Sexton had himself a night that Jazz fans should be overjoyed to see.

In 25 minutes played, Sexton posted 24 points, five rebounds, and five assists, shooting 11/16 from the field. He and C Walker Kessler were also tied for the team’s highest plus/minus on the floor with +22.

It’s super encouraging to see Sexton finally piece things together this preseason, as he found some struggles in earlier matchups against the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers. Now tasked with some more responsibility on the offensive end with a few guys out, it seems any rust that was previously present has now worn off.

Sexton has a massive season ahead for Utah, as his last campaign in 2022-23 got plagued by injuries and rehab that limited him to only 48 games. With a complete offseason and summer to return to full strength, it gives him a great opportunity to re-establish himself as a premier offensive guard in his sixth-year pro.

It remains to be seen how Sexton’s fate will end up in this year’s rotation, as he’s seen minutes in both the starting lineup and coming off the bench. The decision may end up reliant on if HC Will Hardy wants to emphasize finding increased versatility and length over Collin’s scoring touch. However, it will be hard to keep him off the floor if he keeps producing like he did against Sacramento.

The Jazz regular season begins next Wednesday with another match against the Kings at 7 PM MT, this time with all the stars set to hit the floor.
