Former Longtime Jazz F Derrick Favors Works Out With 2 NBA Squads

In this story:
When looking back to the 2010s era of Utah Jazz basketball, one of the many prominent names that might stand out among the crowd is F Derrick Favors. The Georgia Tech alum was a staple for the franchise across an entire decade, starting in over 400 total games through his tenure.
The 3rd-overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft quickly found his way to Salt Lake City after 56 games in his rookie season with the New Jersey Nets, dealt for All-Star G Deron Williams. He then established himself as a key piece of Utah’s frontcourt for years, slotting next to eventual three-time Defensive Player of the Year C Rudy Gobert.
Favors is now in his age-32 season attempting to return to the league after not playing on an NBA roster last year. According to HoopsHype, the 12-year vet has recently had workouts with the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers.
"The Golden State Warriors continue to host NBA veterans for workouts. Recent participants included former Warriors Kent Bazemore, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Dewayne Dedmon, along with free agents Will Barton, Jaylen Nowell, Stanley Johnson and Derrick Favors, league sources told HoopsHype... Favors also worked out for the Portland Trail Blazers, HoopsHype has learned. The 12-year NBA veteran has averaged 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in 790 career games."
The last time we saw Favors was with the Oklahoma City Thunder back in the 2021-22 NBA season. He appeared in 39 games with averages of 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds. Expectations can obviously be dropped from what his production looked like in Utah, but he can find impact as a reserve big for multiple rosters.
A team like the Warriors would present an interesting opportunity for Favors, as it gives him a pathway to compete and win the first NBA championship of his career. However, with multiple candidates gunning for a roster spot, it may be a steep climb to the top of the mountain.
Still, with over a month to go until the 2023-24 season kicks off, gobs of time remain for the former Jazzman to find an appealing bid for a place on a 15-man.
