Jazz News: Jordan Clarkson Agrees to 3-Year Contract Renegotiation

In this story:
Jordan Clarkson’s recently accepted player option meant it was time for the Utah Jazz to continue with their extension discussions. With talks of a sign-and-trade being in rumors combined with the general uncertainty of how a new deal with him would look, Jazz fans were left wondering for a few days.
Now, those discussions have finally come to a close. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Sunday that Jordan Clarkson is renegotiating his player option to a 3-year, $55 million deal to stay with the Jazz.
Utah's Jordan Clarkson, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh are finalizing a three-year, $55 million contract renegotiation and extension with the Jazz, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Deal includes next season and two new years through 2025-26.

A sigh of relief for Jazz fans knowing that their guy is locked in for the next three seasons. If you don’t have a calculator on hand, this averages out to about $18.3 million a season until 2026; extremely great value for Utah. Clarkson’s coming off a career season averaging 20.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Entering what will be his age-31 season, JC has developed into one of the best pure scorers at his position.
Considering players like Dillon Brooks getting $80m/4y, bringing back Clarkson for a deal that’s even more team-friendly makes you question how the front office pulled this off. It’s a move that allows Utah to stay flexible within the cap, while now having a pretty deep guard rotation to play with.
Utah now manages to keep Clarkson with a core consisting of Collin Sexton, Kris Dunn, Keyonte George, and Talen Horton-Tucker. JC can be a fantastic locker room boost and veteran leader for this youth-filled, exciting Jazz team.
With still less than 48 hours into free agency, the Jazz still have plenty of opportunity to make more moves with this roster.
