Looking back at the 2011 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings made the costly decision to trade for the draft rights of college star G Jimmer Fredette. After being selected 10th overall, Fredette would go on to have an underwhelming NBA career despite being one of the most electric NCAA players ever.

In two-and-a-half seasons for the Kings, Fredette averaged 7.0 points and 1.5 assists per game on 41/40/85 shooting splits. Coming out of BYU, Fredette was known for his impressive long-range shooting before that type of marksmanship was normalized.

Many NBA fans claim that Fredette was ahead of his time, and the 34-year-old guard agrees in a recent interview with Sportskeeda:

"The game has changed. It's definitely more of the way I play: shooting the ball, spacing, all those different things. The timing, situation, and all that stuff can play into it. It's the way it works."

After spending many years overseas, Fredette has emerged as a top player in 3x3. Fredette escaped the 5-on-5 aspect of basketball and found his strength in a half-court 3-on-3 style.

Fredette continues to show off his impressive shooting ability, proving he still has what it takes. Despite this, Fredette is not looking for a return to the NBA (via Sportskeeda):

"I've been there, done that. If a team wants to pick me, it's great, but that's not the goal. I was grateful to be able to reach a lifelong dream from a small town. Not being super athletic or big, to make it to the NBA is something like a feat in itself. And then being able to play for six years, have some great moments, and being able to play very well."

After being out of the league for over two seasons, Fredette got a call from the Phoenix Suns, playing six games in 2019. This was the only NBA opportunity Fredette has seen since 2016, and it was likely his last.

The NCAA basketball legend will live on forever, and it is a shame that the electric guard could not get a real chance in the modern NBA.
