In this story:

As we approach closer to the 2023-24 NBA season, early betting lines are beginning to pop up with early favorites and long shots for some awards and honors across the league. For the prestigious NBA MVP trophy, many candidates stand out amongst the crowd to keep a keen eye on, some of who might be a bit under the radar.

Two players in that category standing out might be the Sacramento Kings’ own, both G DeAaron Fox & C Domantas Sabonis. According to odds on DraftKings, each player currently sits at +4000 to take home the NBA MVP award next spring. Those odds put them in a tie for a respectable 17th-best in the league, aligned with names such as Minnesota Timberwolves G Anthony Edwards and Dallas Mavericks G Kyrie Irving.

Career seasons from both Fox and Sabonis help merit their standing in the league going into the next league year. By leading the Kings to a 3-seed in the West as a major part of the franchise’s first playoff appearance in 16 years, the expectations have adjusted accordingly going into year two of this team’s recent rejuvenation.

Players such as Denver Nuggets C Nikola Jokic (+450) and Milwaukee Bucks F Giannis Antetokounmpo (+550) still stick out as some of the leaders in the clubhouse with the best chance to take home the hardware. It would absolutely be an uphill battle for either King to top what those two bring to the table, but we have seen much crazier things happen in the NBA recently.

Sacramento did had some respresentation from both players during last year’s MVP voting. While not receiving any first-place votes, Sabonis placed 7th in the league's vote as Fox finished at 11th. After not making the playoffs over the prior 16 seasons, a turnaround of not one, but two top-12 MVP candidates is a great breath of fresh air.

The Kings steadily creep into this October’s NBA season opener with hopes to accomplish similar regular season success as last year. Potentially with some intriguing underdogs to play up to an MVP level, Sacramento looks to remain as of the most exciting teams to watch in the entire league.
