Kings HC Mike Brown on De'Aaron Fox: 'Nobody Can Mess With That Man'

In this story:
The Sacramento Kings are off to a hot start in their 2023-24 campaign, winning six in a row after starting the season 2-4. They extended their win streak on Sunday night with a dominant performance over the Dallas Mavericks, highlighted by impressive performances by G De'Aaron Fox and C Domantas Sabonis.
Fox and Sabonis combined for 62 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assists, continuing to cement themselves as one of the best duos in the league.
Fox has been the star of the show statistically, averaging 31.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, with 50.6/41.7 shooting splits. Despite missing five consecutive games with an ankle injury, Fox bounced back and has looked better than ever, leading the Kings to 6-1 while active.
After Sunday's impressive win in Dallas, Kings HC Mike Brown praised his All-Star point guard (via @SacramentoKings | X):
"Fox did his job. ...This is what he's supposed to do. He's worked really hard on his three-point shooting, and I'm happy because it's starting to show a little bit to everybody. ...But he did his job. He's a two-way player, he guarded multiple guys tonight. He guarded Kyrie [Irving], he guarded Luka [Doncic] a little bit, he guarded off the ball, and he was phenomenal, but that's who he is supposed to be. We need to get that every single night from Fox for 48 minutes. And that's his mindset, and once he's there, now he's MVP. Because nobody. Nobody can freakin' mess with that man. He's that talented. Believe that."

Fox has taken the necessary leaps to enter the NBA MVP conversation, but the MVP is ultimately an award chosen by voters. Does Fox get enough recognition to be in the MVP conversation?
There is no question whether Fox is talented enough to compete with the best of the best, but the last time the franchise had an MVP winner was legend Oscar Robertson in 1964.
If the Kings continue to win and Fox continues to dominate, he has a real chance to be Sacramento's first-ever NBA MVP. But it seems like the team has a bigger goal in mind: an NBA Championship.
