Brooklyn Rival Seth Curry Named Knicks' 'Ambitious' Free Agent Target

If the New York Knicks are looking for a solution to their problems from the outside, help could linger a borough away in the form of Seth Curry.

The New York Knicks' offseason hasn't, technically speaking, officially begun yet. But they've already been connected, primarily by gossip, to some of the most famous names in the modern NBA, including Embiid, James, and Lillard.

Now, a new hypothetical has them bringing in Curry.

Steph Curry is set, for intents and purposes, to continue his historic run in the Bay Area, but the surname could still mean something to the Knicks: in a list from Bleacher Report highlighting one "ambitious" free agent target for each of the 30 NBA teams, the Knicks were linked to Seth Curry, who has handled the outside shooting duties a borough away in Brooklyn for the rival Nets.

Grant Hughes, who wrote the Knicks' blurb, hints that Curry could form an unlikely collaboration with one of New York's interior staples.

"The 32-year-old guard shot 40.5 percent from deep for the Nets last season and ranks fifth all-time (among players with at least 1,500 career attempts) at a scorching 43.5 percent," Hughes said. "Curry has his defensive limitations and isn't going to do much facilitating, but he's a five-alarm fire off the ball—exactly the kind of attention-grabber New York's offense needs to unclog the lane and capitalize on kickouts when Mitchell Robinson inhales offensive boards."

While the Knicks had representation in the most recent All-Star Weekend's 3-Point Contest (Julius Randle placing seventh among eight contestants), the lack of an outside game cost them dearly in the postseason: among the 16 contestants in the NBA Playoffs, the Knicks were dead-last in three-point success rate at 29.2. By contrast, the top three (Denver, Boston, the Knicks' second-round opponents in Miami) make up the final trio still eligible to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Things were hardly much better in the regular season for the Knicks, who shot 35.3 percent to rank 20th in the Association.

Curry is affordable enough, but that could also mean something for the Knicks' in-city rivals, who could use the experienced Curry to rebuild themselves through veteran stability as they work through the post-Kevin Durant/Kyrie Irving era. It thus figures to be an interesting offseason for Curry, who could find himself fending off New York-branded offers from both sides of the NBA equation.
