Quentin Grimes is headed to the shop for the rest of this season in the Motor City

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the former New York Knick and current Detroit Piston will miss the rest of the year " to rehab lingering muscle soreness related to a knee injury suffered in January." Charania's report states that Grimes' bone bruise has healed and that he will not require surgery.

Grimes began this year as the Knicks' starting shooting guard, embarking on his third season since he came to New York as a first-round pick in 2021. But Grimes struggled to build upon a breakout sophomore campaign, shooting less than 40 percent from the field and seeing his scoring average fall by over four full points.

Having lost his starting five spot to Donte DiVincenzo, Grimes was eventually the Knicks' headlining export in the trade deadline deal that acquired Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks. In six games with the woebegone Pistons but failed to generate any momentum, shooting under 22 percent from the field (including 14.3 percent from three) and averaging 5.3 points over 19.2 minutes.

The deal between the Knicks and Pistons (which also sent Ryan Arcidiacono, Malachi Flynn, and Evan Fournier to Detroit) seemingly made the former one of the NBA's deepest teams on paper, but an impact for either side has yet to materialize.

Bogdanovic, to his credit, has found something of a groove over the last three games (totaling 35 points and shooting over 48 percent), but both he and Burks have struggled to make a difference in the Knicks' second unit scoring. Burks (32 percent from the field in 18 appearances) has likewise dealt with injuries, as he has missed the last three games with shoulder woes.
