Your home for Knicks coverage of many different perspectives
Welcome to Knicks SI
Welcome to Knicks SI

Hello and welcome! I'm Howard Megdal, and I want to tell you about what kind of coverage on the New York Knicks you're going to find here.

First, a bit about me: I've covered professional basketball for well over a decade. I still remember the first time I walked into the home locker room at Madison Square Garden, tasked with talking to Quentin Richardson. Through the years, it's been a pleasure to cover the team I grew up following — to go inside an organization with plenty of drama, to be sure, but to satisfy my curiosity, and that of readers as well, on all that happens with the most famous basketball team at The World's Most Famous Arena. If you'd told 14-year-old me, watching Game 5 of the 1994 NBA Finals in a tiny corner of the television screen while police chased O.J. Simpson in the rest of the picture, that I'd have the opportunity to cover even a single Knicks game, I wouldn't have believed it.

Since then, I've covered the NBA for numerous outlets, including USA Today, The New York Times and The Athletic. The stories out of the NBA are never-ending and deeply compelling, whether from a team with championship aspirations or a franchise like the Knicks, still figuring many things out. I approach these with both healthy skepticism and the desire to present as full a picture as possible.

What you'll get here at Knicks SI is a bit of everything. We'll combine inside access with the perspective of distance when necessary, trying to isolate vital moments from the games themselves with a big-picture look at this franchise, past, present and future. In addition to games and practices, we'll be thinking about the Knicks in statistical terms, historical terms, even cultural terms, and projecting what's to come. In addition to my own voice, we'll be introducing other writers who bring different perspectives to the franchise as well, both here and everywhere the Knicks play basketball. The goal, always, is to find ways to add value to the knowledge, understanding and conversation. It's not about the sugar rush of tapping into a trend of the moment, though this will be a home for capturing the immediate as well.

If you have ideas that connect to that vision, email us at knickssportsillustrated@gmail.com with pitches. We're looking for unique angles with explanation of how you'd access those you need to talk to for reporting out the story.

It's important to think of this as a community, and accordingly, I want to hear from you on what we're covering, if there's something we haven't covered that you think we should, and your overall thoughts on this basketball team.

I am excited to bring all this to you, to work alongside the great journalists who already cover the Knicks. And I can't wait to take this journey with you.
