Lakers News: Former 2020 Champ’s Wardrobe Choice Offers Possible Hint At Next Team

Is this where he might be headed next?

Future Hall of Fame center Dwight Howard, whose most recent NBA season was spent with your Los Angeles Lakers during their ill-fated 2021-22 run, wore some swag from a prior franchise during an offseason workout in his native Atlanta.

As Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson of Bovada Casino reveals, Howard wore some Orlando Magic shorts during a recent training session with Beyond Sports Academy owner Tion Watkins.

Howard, who spent the 2022-23 season with Taiwan's Taoyuan Leopards, has also more explicitly alluded to an interest in reuniting with the club that selected him with the top overall pick in the 2004 draft. During his first eight seasons with Orlando, Howard was thrice named the Defensive Player of the Year, while he led the team to a 2009 NBA Finals appearance (where it lost in five games to the Kobe Bryant-Pau Gasol Lakers).

The 6'10" big man, an eight-time All-Star while with the Magic and Lakers, spent three separate seasons with LA, at three distinctively different points in his 18-year NBA career. The 37-year-old won his lone league title with Los Angeles as a reserve in 2020, and seems to be looking to return to the NBA following his season abroad, as he alluded to pretty directly in a recent Instagram post:

Behind young stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, the current Orlando Magic are hoping to return to the postseason this year for the first time in four seasons. Howard would most likely be competing for minutes as a reserve next to fellow ex-Laker (though they never overlapped) Moritz Wagner.

Robinson, meanwhile, has a brand-new podcast series, Classics With Scoop B, featuring interviews with luminaries in the entertainment, athletics and business spaces.
