The sole goal for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023-2024 season is to win championship number 18. Team president Rob Pelinka and the front office built this team to win this season, and with the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, LA has as good a chance as anyone with those two out there.

It is a long season, however, and there are a ton of other small victories between the start of the season and mid-June. With the changes made prior to this season, LA may not have to wait long to lift a trophy, a trophy, not THE trophy.

With the in-season tournament being introduced this season, teams will have a chance to raise the NBA Cup. Not only that but an opportunity for each player on the team to win $500,000 each, giving players and your Los Angeles Lakers extra motivation per superstar Anthony Davis.

I don't care how rich you are; half a million dollars will certainly have your juices flowing.

So far, the Lakers are in a good spot. Their record is 2-0 for in-season tournament play, with two more games remaining in the group round. LA took care of business on the road last Friday at Phoenix and Tuesday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Next on the docket is the Portland Trail Blazers on the road (whom LA beat, 116-110, in their first meeting of the year) and a home game next Tuesday, the 21st, against the Utah Jazz.

According to ESPN analytics, LA has a 77.9% chance to make the knockout stage and a 68.1% to win the group. LA is primed for a good shot at the NBA Cup, and if healthy, there's no reason not to get the job done.

These games count toward the regular season record, so hopefully, LA gets the job done.
