Executive Convinced Lakers Add No-Brainer Prospect... If They Trade Into 2024 Draft

In this story:
As the Los Angeles Lakers get set for the new NBA season to get started, they enter the season with some high expectations for themselves.
They are coming off a run to the Western Conference Finals, and now will be looking to improve on that fact. But the story of LeBron James’ potential retirement isn’t likely to go away anytime soon.
It made ripples all offseason, but with James returning, it does make people wonder when he will ultimately decide to walk away. So we could be seeing the final season with James in the purple and gold.
Especially considering that he has spoken at length about his desire to play with his son, Bronny, at the NBA level. There are rumors that James could join whatever team drafts his son in the 2024 NBA Draft for his final season.
But what if the Lakers were to draft Bronny? It would give James the best of both worlds. One NBA scout believes that LA would jump at the opportunity to draft Bronny if they have the chance next season.
“If the Lakers get a pick, they won’t pass on him. He’s a decent player. He’s better than some guys who may get picked ahead of him. He’s solid, not spectacular. He knows how to play.”
Per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype
The key here would be whether or not the Lakers hold onto their first-round pick for 2024. They owe the New Orleans Pelicans their first pick in either 2024 or 2025 from the Anthony Davis trade, and the Pelicans can choose which year to take it.
Getting Bronny on the Lakers would be a dream for James. He could stay with the Lakers and likely retire in LA while playing with his son. It would also be special for Bronny, as he could help engineer a new era of Lakers basketball.
Only time will tell what happens with Bronny and the Lakers draft pick for next season. But this is one scenario that can’t be counted out at all.
