Lakers Injury Report: Insider Reveals Status Of Anthony Davis Ahead Of Blazers Game

In this story:
The Los Angeles Lakers mini three-game win streak came to a halt on Wednesday evening, as they dropped their first home game of the season to the Sacramento Kings by a score of 125-110. It was a poor game overall from the Lakers, and they seemed tired on the second night of a back-to-back.
Star big man Anthony Davis struggled the entire game, and you could tell that the hip injury he suffered a week ago was bothering him. He has pushed through the injury, but it showed up at the wrong time against the Kings.
Lakers insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic provided the status of Davis for the team's game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday.
"He admitted that his treatment options ahead of Wednesday’s games were limited, but confirmed he plans on playing Friday in Portland in the Lakers’ third In-Season Tournament matchup."
Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic
Davis doesn’t have the luxury of taking time off to let it heal, so he is doing what he can to manage everything
“I’m still treating it every day,” Davis said. “Obviously, you don’t get that day to really attack it with the back-to-back. But it is what it is. I suit up, I will play. I got to be more effective. Obviously, it was still bothering me a little bit, but I still got to go out there and do my job.”

The injury seemed to strongly impact him in the back-to-back game against the Kings, as he only scored nine points on the night. The Lakers were run off the floor from the start, but he isn’t making any excuses for his poor performance.
“I just played bad,” Davis said. “I’m not going to put it on anything. … It was just missed shots. I just played like s— tonight. It’s that simple.”

Just the night before, Davis was dominant against the Memphis Grizzlies, so something changed overnight. In all likelihood, the hip injury started acting up after the Memphis game, but Davis didn’t have enough time to let it rest.
The team needs him on the floor going forward if they want any shot to reach their goals. If he is forced to miss any time, it would dramatically impact their place in the standings, and possibly their playoff chase.
He is the engine that makes this team run, so managing his injury will be a priority. The hope is that Davis can play through it all, without making it worse, and the Lakers can continue to build chemistry with him on the court.
