Lakers: Is LA Done Making Trades After the Russell Westbrook-D’Angelo Russell Swap?

They still have some assets to move.

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their aggressive trade deadline, bringing back former No. 2 overall pick D'Angelo Russell along with Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt in a three-team trade that saw Russell Westbrook, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Damian Jones find new homes. The Lakers also moved their 2027-first round picks, with protections on picks 1-4.

The move instantly jolts the Lakers back into playoff contention, and left them with the ability to make another move before Thursday's deadline.

The Lakers still have tons of tradable assets, including their 2029 first-round pick, multiple second-round picks and salary fillers on expiring contracts such as Patrick Beverley and Lonnie Walker IV. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka is clearly all-in on building a winner around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so there's no reason he shouldn't make another win-now move.

So, Who Could The Lakers Still Get?

The fact that Pelinka only traded one first-round pick means the options are pretty endless. While this probably takes the Lakers out of the running for a big name like Zach Lavine, Chris Paul or OG Anunoby, they still have more than enough resources to add any of the following players they've been heavily linked to this trade deadline.

Here's who they could still potentially add, and how likely the move is at this point.

Fred VanVleet: The fact that the Lakers added a point guard in Russell makes a move for VanVleet highly unlikely. He would've been a nice fit, but now, there wouldn't be much room for him in the lineup. Then again, we know Darvin Ham loves his three-guard lineups.

Bojan Bogdanovic: This move is still very much a possibility. The going rate for Bogdanovic was likely a first-round pick, and he would still fit very nicely as a floor spacing forward. I don't see it happening, but it's definitely a possibility.

Gary Trent Jr.: This is the guy I wanted the Lakers to get all deadline long. He's a great 3-and-D wing, and you can never have too many of those. His value was reported to be surprisingly low, so maybe it's not too late for the Lakers to make a move.

Josh Richardson: Another 3-and-D wing who's likely to be moved ahead of the deadline, he would cost even less than Trent Jr., and add more versatility to the Lakers lineup. This could definitely happen before Thursday, too.

Other options still include guys like Terry Rozier, Buddy Hield and Eric Gordon, however, the addition of Russell and Beasley feels like it pretty much knocks those trades out of the running.

I think the best move for the Lakers would be adding Trent Jr., but then again, they may have another move up their sleeve that we haven't heard about yet — the DLo one somewhat came out of nowhere early on Wednesday.
