Lakers News: 2 LA Shooting Guards Make Writers’ New All-Time Top 20 List

In HoopsHype.com's recent "20 greatest shooting guards ever" list, 2 of your Los Angeles Lakers made the cut. We can all guess who one of them is, but the other may only be a household name for some of you.

I'll cover Kobe later on, but coming in at 20th, is Gail Goodrich.

Goodrich played his college basketball at UCLA, being drafted by the Lakers in the 1965 NBA draft. He had two stints in LA – one from 1965-1968, and one from 1970-1976.

Goodrich was a terrific shooter, being named to 5 All-Star teams, one All-NBA team, and winning one NBA title. He's ranked 62nd all time in scoring, and 76th in assists. He was described as "clutch," but simultaneously, a "purely offensive player."

Not much needs to be said about Kobe. 5 NBA titles, 2 Finals MVPs, an MVP, 11 All-NBA 1st Team selections, 18 All-Star selections, and 9 All-Defensive 1st Team selections.

All time, he ranks 4th in scoring, 16th in steals, 33rd in assists, and 112th in rebounds.

Long story short, Kobe is an icon. He defined the city of Los Angeles for 2 decades, and was an instrumental part of two different eras in Los Angeles – one highlighted by him and Shaq's three-peat, and one highlighted by his leading of the franchise to back-to-back titles, and 3 straight finals appearances.

The late generational talent's late-career production was cut short by an Achilles tear in 2013, but he returned for a few additional campaigns to become the first guard to play 20 seasons in NBA history.

His impact can't be understated, and articles/lists like these truly ensure that the stories of Kobe live on.
