Lakers News: Expert Breaks Down Jalen Hood-Schifino Game Tape

Loads of potential for JHS!

The Los Angeles Lakers' new young core has been in full effect in the summer league this year and they are headlined by Max Christie, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Maxwell Lewis and Colin Castleton just to name a few. They dropped both of their two games in the California Classic but majority of the guys on the roster showed some flashes to look forward to.

Max Christie is already pushing the 'too good for summer league' boundaries but all eyes have been on Fino considering that he was LA's first-round pick this year and is projected to be their primary ball handler at some point in the future. He had a solid freshman season at Indiana last season as he averaged about 13 points and four assists.

And the ball has been in his hands in his first two outings in the California Classic. Everybody seemed to be focused on the fact that he struggled to put the ball in the basket in LA's Monday loss to the Miami Heat as he made zero three's out of his five attempts and shot six of 19 from the field overall.

However, expert Steve Jones Jr. took a look at Fino's highlights from his first game and pointed out the positives.

JHS does have great size and wingspan as a guard and he uses it to its full potential on this play. The body control and acrobatic skills were on full display with this layup here and we'll have to see his preferences in the NBA when he goes in the paint: Is he looking for contact or does he look to avoid it?

This drive by Fino late in the second quarter shows how much attention he draws when he drives in. About three defenders collapsed on him and four turned to look in his direction. He prioritized his own shot here but Jones made a great point that he'll open up looks for others in the future.

JHS will be huge coming off of screens in the future whether he sees floor time with Anthony Davis or not but on this specific play, you can see his defender struggle to keep up with him and he hits the easy mid-range right here.
