Lakers News: How LA Personnel Feels About Darvin Ham As A Coach Heading Into Year 2

Ham showed out in his first season...

Lakers head coach Darvin Ham is entering his second season with the team, and it does feel like he has been here longer. He showed major poise and composure last season, even if things were always perfect for the new coach.

“While things got rocky during his first season — and did they — Ham was usually the calmest figure, rarely showing any signs of frustration. His approach and willingness to work with his staff to cook up playoff game plans, earned him really high marks inside the locker room last season.”

Per Dan Woike of The LA Times

Ham proved himself during his first year in LA, and everyone should feel great about him going forward. He learned from his early mistakes and continued to trust the plan that he put in place.

The team was close to making the NBA Finals during his first season, even after getting a brand new roster at the trade deadline. Ham showed he was capable of the job, and that the Lakers made a great decision to hire him.

“I’ve never really doubted myself, but again, a smart man knows he can’t be the smartest man in the room,” Ham said. “Again, that’s why you surround yourself with the type of coaching talent that I was able to surround myself with.”

Ham made strides during his first season in LA, and it showed come playoff time. He did about as good of a job as any first-year head coach could do with the kind of pressure that was put on him.

It’s never easy to coach LeBron James, but to also be the leading man for the Lakers as well. It’s a tough job for anyone, and Ham seemed to thrive in his role after getting comfortable.

“There are plenty of people inside the Lakers’ organization who think the team has the right coach and are excited to see what he can do in Year 2 with a more stable roster.”

Per Dan Woike of The LA Times

The Lakers have the look of a title-contending team, and they should be one of the better squads in the Western Conference this year. They have good depth all over, and it should allow them to match up with any opposing team they face.

The biggest factor for them will be their health, and if they can stay healthy, then the sky is the limit. The season starts soon, and it should be a great one for the purple and gold.
