Lakers News: LA Drafts Elite Pepperdine Forward Maxwell Lewis with 40th Pick

The definition of a bucket-getter!

Well, there you have it Lakers fans... LA's 2023 draft is now complete and I am quite happy with what we just saw. The Lakers' front office decided to roll with a three-level scorer out of Pepperdine with Maxwell Lewis once their 40th pick rolled around and seeing who else was left on board, it looks like they will have big plans for him.

Seeing him fall this low in the draft was pretty surprising because of how versatile he proved to be through 31 college games this most recent season. He posted 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists and was one of the focal points on the offense end for Pepperdine.

The news of the selection was first shared by none other than Shams Charania.

"Sources: Lakers are selecting Max Lewis at No. 40."

Lewis shot around 35% from three which is not amazing but his form and mechanics are promising. He was streaky at times but showed up when his team needed him most in big games and finished as a member of the second-team All-WCC.

However, this was an excellent selection for the Lakers seeing that they took Jalen Hood-Schifino, a guard with size that can create his own looks and attack the rim. I'm super excited to see how both of these guys can develop within the Lakers' system and fans should be quite content with what we are walking away with.

Even though none of the massive rumors as far as trades for the Lakers ended up coming true, sometimes the best decision is to just roll with what you have right in front of you and not try to do too much. LA has had plenty of bad experiences with big trades in these past years and maybe investing more into the future is the right call.
