LeBron James, Darvin Ham Reveal Source of Lakers Early Season Struggles

LA needs to get things together sooner rather than later.

The Los Angeles Lakers start to the season hasn’t exactly gone the way that anyone would have hoped for. The team has dropped multiple games that they could have easily won, and they’ve looked poor to start.

Lakers star forward LeBron James spoke about what has gone wrong for the team early in the season. He pointed to the injuries that the team has suffered as being the main reason for the struggles.

“We can’t build cohesion if we don’t have our unit,” James said. “It’s that simple. It’s just — we’re very depleted on the injury side.”

Injuries have taken their toll on this team early in the year, and they haven’t been able to really gel together. They have been missing major pieces of their rotation, and guys are having to play larger minutes or in spots that they normally wouldn’t be in.

It has caused massive issues for this team, and they look discombobulated on the floor at times. We have seen glimpses of promise from this team, but they haven’t been able to sustain it for a consistent period.

Head coach Darvin Ham echoed a similar sentiment to James, saying that the injuries have just been catching up with the Lakers early on.

“It seems like we have one person that’s coming off of injury and then someone else going on the inactive list,” coach Darvin Ham told reporters after Wednesday’s loss. “So we just have to juggle all of that. I’m not discouraged or anything because we haven’t been whole all year.”

If the injuries continue to pile up, the Lakers will have to find a way to work around them. It’s easier said than done, but this team needs to start putting together wins if they want to stay relevant in the Western Conference.

The guys who are playing need to try and rally together to hold down the fort for those who are missing. The fate of their season really does depend on them getting things together sooner rather than later.
