Lakers News: LeBron James Sends Cryptic Warning to Dillon Brooks, Michael Malone

In this story:

The 2023 NBA playoffs were filled with more trash talk and unfriendly banter than typically seen in the league, especially when it came to people taking shots at LeBron James.

Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone made comments about James and the Lakers on multiple occasions, but as recently as training camp.

On ESPN's The Pat McAfee show, after the Nuggets won the NBA championship in June, Malone took a jab at James, who mentioned that he might retire in a postgame conference after the Lakers were eliminated.

Former Grizzlies and now Rockets wing Dillon Brooks took not only verbal shots at James but physical ones too

While James and the Lakeshow ultimately got the better of the Grizzlies, defeating them as an underdog by 5 seeds in the first round, the same can't be said for Michael Malone and the Nuggets.

The Lakers got swept in the Conference Finals, while the Nuggets eventually went on to win the NBA title.

When asked a few months later about the trash talk and his view on it in hindsight, James had this to say:

Safe to say that LeBron is returning this season with a vengeance. As he enters year 21, it's possible he's ready to give it his all and take the Lakers as far as he can.

With the Lakers roster being deeper than ever before in the LeBron/Anthony Davis era, along with the continuity and roster attrition from last season, this is a group that can challenge anyone in the league, including Denver, who they lost to in 4 games but by a combined 24 points, suggesting that the series was far closer than the overall record would suggest.

A vengeful LeBron is one of the scariest sights in the league, and it'll be interesting to see how he comes out on opening night in just a couple of days.
