The Los Angeles Lakers could be without as many as six players for their first encounter of the season against the rising San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, per the team's first injury report ahead of the game.

Four Lakers have already been ruled out, according to Jovan Buha of "Buha's Block."

21-time All-NBA power forward LeBron James (sciatica), reserve center Maxi Kleber (abdominal muscle strain), and rookie forward Adou Thiero (left knee surgery recovery) will have to wait for at least another game to make their season debuts.

Point guard Gabe Vincent, who has missed most of the short season with a sprained left ankle, is also sidelined for the Spurs clash.

Shooting guard Austin Reaves, who sat out Monday's surprise star-less victory against the Portland Trail Blazers, has been upgraded to questionable. Five-time All-NBA superstar guard Luka Doncic, who also sat out that Trail Blazers clash on the second night of a back-to-back, is off the Lakers' injury report.

Backup Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, who sprained his right ankle during the Portland game, is considered probable to suit up.

On the San Antonio side, the Spurs' once-deep backcourt has already been decimated by early injuries.

The Already-Ailing Spurs

According to the NBA's most recent injury report, All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox (right hamstring strain) and No. 2 rookie draft pick Dylan Harper (left cal strain) are both out for at least a few weeks. Backup center Luke Kornet, inked to a lucrative three-year, $41 million deal in free agency to back up rising All-Star San Antonio center Victor Wembanyama, has been ruled out with a left ankle sprain.

Spurs two-way players Harrison Ingram and Riley Minix are questionable to join the team. Backup big man Kelly Olynyk (left heel surgery recovery), forward Jeremy Sochan (left wrist sprain) and bench shooting guard Lindy Waters III (bilateral eye procedure) are all questionable to suit up.

The Lakers and Spurs have numbered among the surprise stories in the West this season. Both clubs have looked better than expected. San Antonio is off to a 5-1 start, while Los Angeles has gone 6-2 despite missing James and Doncic for multiple games.
