In this story:

The Los Angeles Lakers are on the brink of elimination in the first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Lakers are down 3-1 in their series, and the odds of coming back down 3-1 are close to improbable. Regardless, whether they win or lose this series, it's clear that this team needs some major changes if they really want to be title contenders next season and beyond.

The Lakers are all about star power, and they have proven that to be the case throughout their franchise's history. In the past eight seasons alone, the L.A. has added the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Luka Doncic.

Los Angeles has long been associated with star power, and Doncic appears to be the latest in line to carry that torch. The 26-year-old is poised to lead the Lakers for the foreseeable future—potentially the next seven to ten years—but he likely won’t be doing it alone.

The expectation around the league is that the Lakers will look to pair Doncic with another marquee talent in the coming years. While it remains to be seen who that player might be, former Lakers forward Carlos Boozer has a clear favorite: Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In a recent appearance on ESPN's Get Up, Boozer said he would love to see Antetokounmpo go to L.A. alongside Doncic.

"If I'm Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and I don't want to go back to Milwaukee, maybe play with Luka [Doncic], maybe go to LA [to the Lakers] if he wants to win?"

Antetokounmpo, 30, has spent his entire career with the Bucks. He led that franchise title four seasons ago, but since then, it's been shortcoming after shortcoming.

Doncic reached the Finals just last season with the Dallas Mavericks, and his desire to win it all remains as strong as ever. Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo is equally driven, eager to add another championship to his résumé.

If these two elite talents were to join forces in Los Angeles, it would instantly thrust the Lakers back into the championship spotlight—creating a powerhouse duo built to contend for titles over the long haul.

At the moment, it’s all speculative. Still, if history has taught us anything, it’s that the Lakers should never be counted out when it comes to landing marquee names.
