Lakers News: How LA Is Already Improving Its Offense In The Preseason

In this story:
One of the biggest elements of your Los Angeles Lakers' personnel that the club's front office honed in on this offseason was bringing more offensive firepower to the table. The Lakers struggled at times last season to score the ball, so it was a major point of emphasis this summer.
While it has only been a few games to open the preseason, we are already seeing some changes to the LA offense. In their preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that the Lakers made 20 three-point shots, which is something that they didn’t do even one time all of last year.
LA wanted to improve their three-point shooting this offseason and did just that. The emphasis on more threes being taken will be a major part of this team moving forward, and they believe that they have the guys in place to knock them down at a high rate. Head coach Darvin Ham explained what he is looking for.
“That’s one of our goals,” Ham said after the game. “We want to get our attempts up. We don’t want to go crazy. Like, we still want to be a team that loves and lives in the paint. … And so, we feel really good.”
Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic
If the Lakers can become even an average three-point shooting team, it would unlock so much for their offense. They have been a team that has relied on bullying other squads inside the paint, but now having the ability to play both styles could help them tremendously.
“Whether the Lakers become an average to above-average 3-point shooting team – they don’t have the shooters to rank among the league’s elite – remains to be seen. But the early returns are encouraging.”
Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic
This is going to be something to watch going forward with this team, and the more comfortable the new guys get with the system, the better they should be.
LA has all the tools to become one of the best teams in the league, and now they just need to put it all together. The hope is that their offense can be taken to a new level this season, and if does, the sky is the limit.
