Lakers News: How LA Fans Feel About Jarred Vanderbilt's Fresh Extension

In this story:

The Lakers made some headline news late in the offseason recently when they signed young forward Jarred Vanderbilt to an extension. The deal is for four years and is worth $48 million over that time.

Vanderbilt was set to become a free agent after the upcoming season but now will stay in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future. He is among multiple Lakers players that have been signed for the next few years, as they try to build on the continuity that they had last season.

Upon being traded to the Lakers at the trade deadline last season, Vanderbilt quickly made his presence felt. He was used in different ways on defense, and let his skillset shine against some of the better players that the league has to offer.

He guarded guys like Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks and Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors and was a weapon for LA on the defensive side of the court. But his offense did struggle at times, and he was played off the court in the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

However, his value to the team was too much to let him go. So LA picked up his option for the coming year, and they likely extended him to avoid dealing with the market next summer.

Here is how fans reacted to the news of his extension!

If Vanderbilt can improve his offense this season, this deal will be a major steal for the Lakers. He is still only 24 years old and has plenty of room to grow his game.

He already has the defense and rebounding abilities down to a tee, and he has focused this offseason on getting better offensively. If anything, he can be used as a solid trade chip down the line if things don't work out, but LA has been very high on him going forward.
