Lakers News: LA Dips In Week 4 National Power Rankings After Uneven Start

In this story:

Through the first 10 games of the new NBA season, your 5-5 Los Angeles Lakers are a difficult team to get a read on. While they have had some flashes of brilliance, they have also struggled in other areas.

The team has been up and down to start the year, but they have also been decimated by injury to start. It has seen multiple members of the team miss time, including star LeBron James in the last game.

The uneven start for the Purple and Gold has seen them fall in the latest power rankings across the internet. We examine the teams' rankings below!

Last week, the Lakers were ranked 10th overall by NBA.com, but they have fallen down to 15th overall now.

"The Lakers have built a better supporting cast around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but still need both of them to be healthy. They had absolutely no defensive presence without Davis in Houston on Wednesday, when they allowed the Rockets to score 68 points in the paint. Without James on Sunday, they needed 41 minutes from Davis to get a six-point win over the 3-6 (and very short-handed) Blazers."

Per John Schuhmann of NBA.com

Over at USA Today, the Lakers were ranked at number 16, one below NBA.com.

"Beyond a couple of big losses (120-101 to Orlando and 128-94 to Houston), most of the attention is on LeBron James’ minutes and overall team health – until the Lakers start stringing together more victories."

Per Jeff Zillgett of USA Today

The team is again ranked at 16 over at Cluth Points.

"So much hype surrounded the Los Angeles Lakers entering the 2023-24 season as a result of their run to the Western Conference Finals and their ability to lure in key free agents like Gabe Vincent during the offseason. Ten games into the season, the Lakers are once again dealing with problems offensively, Vincent is on the injury list due to a knee injury, Jarred Vanderbilt is injured, and all the weight of the franchise is falling on the shoulders of Anthony Davis and LeBron James."

Per Brett Siegel of Clutch Points

And the lowest spot for the Lakers comes from Bleacher Report, which has them down at number 20.

"In this year's Western Conference, the margin of error is too thin for Reaves to play like this."

Per Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report

There seems to be a general consensus that the Lakers are a middle-of-the-pack team right now, and rightfully so. If they want to improve their standing in future rankings, they will need to start picking up wins quickly.
