Even with the upgrades on the Los Angeles Lakers' roster for this season, they are still falling behind in one offensive category. That would be the three-point shooting from this team, and it's a real problem.

"It’s almost comical how poorly the Lakers are shooting 3s this season — and, really, for most of the James-Davis era. Currently, they rank 29 in the league in 3s made per game, 30th in 3s attempted per game and 29th in 3-point percentage. Their opponents have made more 3s in every game and shot a better 3-point percentage in all but one."

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic

Against Portland, the Lakers shot an atrocious 4/19 from three-point land but somehow found a way to win the game. It was about as ugly of a shooting night as the team could have imagined, but head coach Darvin Ham didn’t seem concerned after the game.

“Guys are still figuring out their rhythms in terms of the synergy with one another, each other’s tendencies and habits,” Ham said after the game. “We’re encouraging our guys, ‘If you’re open, shoot it. If there’s a better play to be made, then make that play.’ But that’ll come. ... The biggest thing that you can do in the meantime, though, is be good defensively.”

Per Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times

To be fair, the Lakers have been getting good looks, they just haven’t knocked them down yet. But there is a belief that it will happen at some point in the season.

This has been an issue for the Lakers for a long time now, and their lack of three-point shooting has hurt them. If they can’t figure this out, it could end up costing them when it matters most later in the year.

But for now, they just need to continue working on everything, and building that trust among each other. They have been without some key members of the team, so it could be hurting their chances on the floor.

This is something the team will need to deal with going forward, but if they want to reach their goals, they will need to improve. If they don’t, the team will likely look around the league at the trade deadline about acquiring more shooting for the playoff run.
