Lakers News: LeBron James, Anthony Davis Get Honest About In-Season Tournament

The star duo could feel the intensity in their first in-season tournament game

Your Los Angeles Lakers escaped with their first road win of 2023-24 in the last contest of a four-game road trip. The Lakers defeated the Phoenix Suns during their first in-season tournament game, 122-119. 

The Lakers pick up their first in-season tournament win in their quest to win the first-ever in-season tournament in NBA history. It's a new mix into the regular season, and although many teams and players aren't sure what it is exactly about, they know a lot is at stake, including your Los Angeles Lakers. 

LeBron James and Anthony Davis touched on the topic post-game after the victory. The dynamic duo noted that they could feel the difference in intensity between a "regular season" game and an in-season tournament game. 

"It had a little bit more intensity to it. I thought the fans even brought a little more energy into the game as well. They have great fans here, but they knew it was an in-season tournament game, too, so it was a little bit more intensified. Some of the plays and execution tonight were at a high level. So, it was a little different than just a regular season game."

Friday was the first of four in-season games. The Suns are in their West group, "Group A," along with the Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Utah Jazz. The Lakers started this on the right foot and will look to take care of business in the next three games. 

These games count toward their regular season record, so regardless, LA needs to take them seriously, and there's no reason they shouldn't. The next in-season tournament game will be on Tuesday, November 14, to host the Grizzlies.
