Lakers News: The 2 Re-Signed LA Players Who Can't Be Moved Until January

In this story:

The Los Angeles Lakers made sure to be quite active in free agency this offseason as they know that the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis will only continue for so much longer and they need to take advantage of their stardom while they still can.

First things first, Austin Reaves proved to be a reliable third scoring option behind both of them and LA made it clear to other NBA franchises that they would be making it a top priority to re-sign him even if they had spend around $100 million to do so. Rui Hachimura also took a huge scoring and defensive load off of James and Davis as the postseason went on and the Lakers locked him up as well.

And obviously with these two having yet to play a game for the purple and gold after signing these new contracts, the possibility of a trade involving either of them seem near zero. However, you just never know with the Lakers and certain experts have already been looking at potential midseason moves LA could make if they're not happy with their own start to the year.

If this is the case, it's very important to note that both Reaves and Hachimura cannot be moved until January 15 due to the details within the contract they signed.

"There’s also a small subset of free agent signees whose trade ineligibility lasts for an extra month. These players all meet a specific set of criteria: Not only did they re-sign with their previous team this offseason, but they got a raise of at least 20%, their salary is worth more than the minimum, and their team was over the cap, using

or

Early Bird

rights to sign them."

All signs point to Reaves being a major part of LA's future due to his vast improvement over the past few years and his ability to handle some point guard duties.

Hachimura, on the other hand, will have more to prove considering that he struggled in the regular season before turning up for the playoffs. I do think that the Lakers will prefer to hold on to both of these young scorers instead of going through another trade but we'll have to see once the year kicks off!
