Lakers News: Pundit Lists Top 3 Remaining Free Agents For LA To Consider Signing

In this story:
Your Los Angeles Lakers have had a great offseason so far, but they still need to make one or two smaller moves to finalize it all. They still have a need in their frontcourt behind star Anthony Davis, but the issue is that there just aren’t great options available.
The team also only has slightly more than the veteran’s minimum contract to offer to potential free agents, which makes things harder as well. LA likely won’t get a real strong impact player on the market right now. But they need to do something.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report put together a list of three potential options for LA to sign, with one name being a familiar one to Laker fans. He listed Christian Wood, Bismack Biyombo and Gorgui Dieng as options for LA.
"Their roster could use another big man, particularly if head coach Darvin Ham plans on rolling out any of the two-big lineups they deployed often during their 2019-20 championship run."
Per Bleacher Report
Between these three, Wood is the most intriguing player here. Biyombo is a good rebounder and decent defender, but the team already signed Jaxson Hayes to fill that role on the roster. Dieng could be interesting but he did have a rough 2022-2023 season. He only averaged 3.9 points a game, and his normally effective three-point shot saw his percentage drop to just 28%.
Wood would give the team a reliable scorer when he’s on the floor. But the downside with him is his defense and attitude sometimes. It’s why he is still available and why he has bounced around the league since entering years ago.
He averaged 16.6 points per game and shot 37.6 percent from deep last year with the Dallas Mavericks. But considering that he would be the backup big for LA, they could do a lot worse than Wood. The question here is whether he would accept the minimum contract to boost his image around the NBA, to then re-enter free agency next season.
This ongoing search for a big man continues, and it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out before the season starts.
