Super Bowl Victor Compares Christian Wood Signing To Champion Lakers Hall Of Famer

In this story:
The Los Angeles Lakers signing of big man Christian Wood sparked all sorts of narratives across the NBA world. It was generally seen as a positive move by LA, and the cherry on top of a successful offseason.
Wood brings floor spacing to this Lakers team, something that they didn’t have from their big guys last year. He shot 37.6 percent from deep last season with the Dallas Mavericks, and that number should stay consistent with LeBron James getting him even better looks.
LA is paying him the minimum, in what looks to be a steal for them. But Wood doesn’t come with his flaws. His defense is a work in progress, and there have been questions about his attitude at times. All in all, though, it seems like a great signing for the Lakers.
So much so, that former NFL star Richard Sherman had some high praise for Wood on the Fox Sports One show Undisputed. Sherman compared the Lakers new big man to a former LA great.
“Pau Gasol. A Lakers great jersey just went into the rafters. During his Lakers career, averaged 18 and 9 or 18 and 10. This boy coming in is averaging 18 and 9 over the last three years.”

Now, comparing Wood to Gasol may be a bit of a stretch, but Sherman does make a decent point. Wood has been very solid for the last few seasons, and now the Lakers are getting him as their backup center.

He brings an entirely new element to this team, and it should see their offense become much more effective than it was last season. If he can buy in, the sky is the limit for the LA squad.
Wood is a low-risk, potentially very high-reward pickup for the Lakers. His focus will be on helping the team do what they need him to do, and possibly picking up a championship along the way.
