ORLANDO - How a team plays at the end of games will often decide a team's ceiling and how far they can go.

But what often can get lost in the shuffle are the moments that lead to a team finding itself in close ballgame in the waning moments. For Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley, he's wants the moments outside of the end of game situations to be just an important.

"I think in those last two to the four minutes of the game, you have to really know that those are the heightened possessions and you don't lose it in those moments or win it in those moments," Mosley said. "It's obviously what starts in the beginning of the game."

With such a young team, Mosley getting his team to understand how important it is to start strong in games and to begin the season is a pivotal step in the right direction. Orlando went 5-20 to begin last season, and the team was never able to recover, as it finished 34-48 and was never able to crack the playoff picture.

Even among the rough 25-game stretch to begin last season, there were games where Orlando got off to strong starts then faded down the stretch. If Mosley can get his team to play a full 48 minutes, the Magic will have a chance to flip the script on games it let slip away in the second half.

The Magic is one of the most polarizing teams heading into this season. With one of the best young duos in Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, and key players like Markelle Fultz and Wendell Carter Jr. in the midst of their prime, Orlando may find itself in the middle of a playoff race down the stretch of the season. But if the team is going to make that jump, heeding Mosely's words and getting off to a faster start will be crucial.
