LISTEN: Mavs All-Star Break Optimism; Doncic, Irving Poised For Big Run?

Due to injuries, the Dallas Mavericks only got a two-game sample size of the Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving dynamic duo before the NBA All-Star break. Now, they'll have a chance to build some momentum toward the playoffs with a six-game homestand that starts on Thursday night.

With NBA All-Star Weekend in the rearview mirror, the Dallas Mavericks still have a few days off before they begin a crucial six-game homestand against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night.

Although the dynamic star duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving is sure to be an offensive nightmare for opposing teams, the Mavs only had two games to get a look at the two guards together before the break due to injuries. That isn't going to be a problem to start home stretch of the season, though, as Doncic, Irving and the rest of the Dallas roster are expected to fully healthy and rested when they take the floor against the Spurs.

On this episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, we take a look at what's ahead for the Mavs, and there's a lot of reasons for optimism. For starters, Dallas is currently the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference standings and is just 2.5 games behind the Sacramento Kings for the No. 3 seed. The Mavs also have the easiest schedule remaining to close out the season.

Also during this episode, we take a look at Los Angeles Lakers marathon that the national media has been running for two weeks straight. Are we really going to have to hear about LeBron James' dream of reuniting with Irving every other day or so until free agency begins this summer? Perhaps the focus should be on what's currently happening with Irving in Dallas instead.
