Mavs Star Kyrie Irving Sits Courtside at Lakers vs. Nuggets; Free Agency Buzz Increasing?

For the second time this postseason, Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving was seen sitting courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers home game. This will only increase the speculation surrounding his upcoming free agency.

As much as Dallas Mavericks fans want to ignore the Los Angeles Lakers free agency smoke that continues to circle around Kyrie Irving, the star guard being seen sitting courtside at Game 4 of L.A.'s Western Conference Finals series against the Denver Nuggets won't help matters any.

Although this kind of thing justifiably rumors, especially since Irving has such a deep history with Lakers star LeBron James, it should be noted that Irving has a mansion in Los Angeles. So there's a chance Irving simply wanted to take in some playoff basketball on his extended vacation.

As we wrote about at DallasBasketball.com earlier today, there was a recent report saying the Mavs and Irving had a "handshake deal" for a four-year max contract before the trade with the Brooklyn Nets actually happened in February.

Given the complexities of the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Lakers signing Irving in free agency would be much harder for them to accomplish than most people realize. It would likely require L.A. sacrificing depth on top of Irving taking a discount to get a deal done. Not to mention, the Mavs would have to cooperate in order for a sign-and-trade to occur.

The most likely scenario for Irving is that he re-signs with the Mavs and gives his star pairing with Luka Doncic another shot after having a full offseason to get completely healthy and become more acclimated to each other. Free agency will begin on June 30 at 5 p.m. CT.
