It is officially February, which means the NBA trade deadline is just eight days away, and the Dallas Mavericks have some work to do.

Despite Luka Doncic having an all-time season with averages of 33.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game — including four 50+ point performances — the Mavs are just 27-25 with 30 games remaining in the season. That mark is good for sixth-place in the West right now, but Dallas is also just two games ahead of being out of the play-in tournament range altogether.

Recent trade rumors state that the Mavs would only part with beloved veteran Dorian Finney-Smith if it's in a package that returns them a star player. Although it's a pipe-dream to think Finney-Smith alone could net a star in return, building a package around him with other players and picks involved wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

It still remains more likely for a splashy Mavs trade to happen in the offseason, but if one happened in the next eight days, could it be with the Toronto Raptors, who could be on the verge of blowing up their roster? If so, there are many names that should intrigue Dallas, including Fred VanVleet, O.G. Anunoby and, most of all, in our opinion, Pascal Siakam.

On this episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, we discuss a potential trade package that could make sense if the Mavs wanted to have a chance at adding Siakam, who would be a seamless co-star fit next to Doncic. Also in this one, we recap all of the NBA games that happened on Tuesday night, including LeBron James playing at Madison Square Garden for the first time in three years and the New Orleans Pelicans losing nine straight games heading into Thursday's game against the Mavs.
