Kyrie Irving Opens Up About Failed Nets Trio With James Harden and Kevin Durant

The Brooklyn Nets will always wonder what this trio could have been

When the Brooklyn Nets made a deal that landed James Harden, it felt as if they would become the NBA's next unstoppable superteam. Injuries and other internal issues stopped that from ever becoming reality, leaving fans across the league to wonder what could have been.

ESPN recently documented Kyrie Irving's thoughts on the failed trio of himself, Kevin Durant, and James Harden. The star point guard believes there is more context that is not considered when their time together is discussed.

"We had James, and we were supposed to be this superteam," Irving said. "I think I would like to say something about the superteam of me, James and KD that everyone thinks should have worked. We played very limited time together, and there were a lot of injuries that took place. I would have liked to see that work for the long term, but there are no mistakes and no coincidences and you gotta move forward... I am happy I can look back on that journey and reflect that I learned a lot of things for those guys and my teammates in Brooklyn and just my journey throughout."

It was a very short-lived era for Irving, Durant, and Harden as teammates, and it is certainly one of the bigger "what if" situations in recent history. Looking absolutely unstoppable at one point in the 2021 playoffs, injuries and a toe on the three-point line derailed what could have been one of the league's most unstoppable forces.

Now, Kyrie Irving is with the Dallas Mavericks, Kevin Durant is with the Phoenix Suns, and James Harden is with the Philadelphia 76ers.
