Former Indiana Pacers guard Mark Jackson let go by ESPN

Jackson spent several season with the Pacers

Mark Jackson has been fired by ESPN and will no longer be an NBA announcer for the network.

Jackson confirmed the news on Twitter Monday night. "This morning, unexpectedly, I was informed that my services were no longer needed at ESPN. Although shocked and dismayed with the suddenness of it all, I would like to thank ESPN and all the staff of the NBA ESPN crew for allowing me to be a part of the organization for the past 15+ years," Jackson shared on social media.

The former NBA player called 15 different NBA Finals series with Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen, per the New York Post. He has also worked for YES Network and ABC since retiring from the NBA.

Doc Rivers and Doris Burke are reportedly expected to be the new NBA Finals broadcast team alongside Breen. Rivers was fired as the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers earlier in the offseason.

"I would also like to thank the NBA fans watching at home and in the arenas throughout the league for all of your support. To the NBA, a heartfelt thank you for allowing a kid to continue to accomplish his dreams," Jackson shared.

Jackson had a 17-year NBA career, and he was an All-Star in 1989. He spent six seasons with the Indiana Pacers and was the starting point guard for the only Pacers team to ever reach the NBA Finals.

To this day, Jackson still holds the Pacers record for assists in one season (713) and assists per game in a season (8.7).

"I look forward to what [God] has in store next," Jackson's statement reads at the end.

In late June, Van Gundy was also let go by ESPN, as was former Pacers guard Jalen Rose. The network is laying off many, and Jackson was among the group.
